Juneteenth
2003: Wrestling with the Past in the New South
On June 19, 1865, Black slaves in Texas first received news of
the Emancipation proclamation from Union troops arriving in
Galveston. The day has come to be celebrated as 'Juneteenth.'
In celebration of Juneteenth, LocalVoter has listed a
