Frequently Asked Questions
About LocalVoter

  What is LocalVoter?
LocalVoter is a balanced, non-partisan resource for voters. LocalVoter provides answers (or links to answers) to all of the most important questions a voter might have from how do I register to vote to who are my elected officials.

Which political party is LocalVoter affiliated with?
None. LocalVoter is a non-partisan political resource.
Where does LocalVoter get its funding?
LocalVoter is privately funded and has received no grants or donations from any political organization.
  Is LocalVoter a non-profit organization?
No. LocalVoter is a company that intends to fund its operations by providing individuals, campaigns, companies, and interest groups with a unique method of advertising to their target audience.
Why is my county not included in LocalVoter?
In the interest of making LocalVoter manageable in its start-up phase the scope of our operations has been limited to just a few major metro areas in Texas. If your county is not included in LocalVoter, but you would like it to be, click here and let us know.
What geographic areas does LocalVoter currently cover?
LocalVoter provides detailed political information to users in the largest metro areas in Texas (Austin, Dallas, Houston & San Antonio) along with the Golden Triangle area of Southeast Texas. Altogether we currently serve a population of more than 11 million people.
  Where will LocalVoter expand next?
We recently added San Antonio. Expansion beyond Texas is planned for late 2007.
How can I find my polling place, registration status, sample ballots, and other information?
1.  Choose your location and county from the pull-down menu on the top right.
2.  On the right-hand column of the page that follows you should see a box called “Get Answers”
3.  Links to that information (provided by your county government) should be in that box where available. Not all counties provide this information online.
How do I find my voting precinct?

1.  Choose your location
2.   Then select your county
3.   Enter your address in the search form (click here for help entering your address)
4.   Click the ‘search’ button
5.   Your Precinct will be listed at the top of the page.
How do I find my candidates?

Once you’ve entered your address (click here for help entering your address) you’ll see a screen that lists categories of officials. Just click on a category to see all the officials of that type who represent you.
I'm having trouble entering my address, can you walk me through the process?
1.  Enter your street number, and only your street number (not the street name or direction) in the "street number" box.
2.  Enter your street name (i.e., Elm or Main) and direction (N,S,SE, etc) in the street name box. This can be a bit tricky and there is no standard formula.
For example, your street address might be 4444 Katy Freeway. It might also be described as 4444 IH-10 West, depending on how the county carries the listing. It may be necessary to try some variations. Also, the street direction is usually, but not always abbreviated to a single letter (i.e., N,S,E,W).  If you are having difficulty please contact us at contact@localvoter.com and let us know. We will help you get through it.  We've done our best to simplify this process, but at the same time we are very careful to preserve the integrity of the data provided to us by your county. As a result there will be some kinks.
3.  Select your city. If you don't find your city in the list try selecting 'none'. If this is not successful than your address may not be in the database. Please contact us if this occurs at contact@localvoter.com and we will help you through it.
4.  Once you've entered this information click 'search'.  The database is quite large so it may take up to one minute to complete the search. We appreciate your patience.
How do I find my elected officials?
Once you’ve entered your address (click here for help entering your address) you’ll see a screen that lists your precinct and your candidates (if an election is pending). There will be a link at the top of the page above your precinct number to a list of your current officials.
Why do some candidates have hyperlinks from LocalVoter to their own websites?
LocalVoter offers hyperlinks to campaigns as a paid service that enhances the quality of the information we provide and helps offset the cost of the service. If you'd like to know more, visit our Candidates' Guide to LocalVoter.
What kind of advertising will LocalVoter provide?
LocalVoter allows candidates to go beyond traditional banner or pop-up ads to deliver multi-media content directly to an interested audience 24 hours a day.  For information on what we provide, visit our Candidates' Guide to LocalVoter.
How can I advertise on LocalVoter?
